Britain’s communists have welcomed the No2EU – Yes to Workers Rights challenge in next month’s European Parliament elections as ‘a vital antidote to the reactionary and anti-foreigner poison’ of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).

Firstly the achievement of the organisers of the People’s Assembly on June 22nd should be acknowledged, and they should be congratulated. To bring together the range of trade union leaders, community activists, anti-austerity and privatisation campaigners, Left organisations and individuals that together led to 4000 participants was a major achievement. It provided a good starting point for further developments, and the Party will be determined to play its part.
Robert Griffiths political report to the Communist Party executive.
Last weekend the Executive Committee of the CP met to discuss, amongst other things, the growing disunity amongst trade unions in their response to the ConDem governments cuts to public sector pension schemes. CP General Secretary, Robert Griffiths introduced the political report: “The struggle to defend public sector pensions has reached a critical point.
Communist Party International Secretary John Foster, delivered the Political Report to the May EC focussing on two strategic areas where contradictions have been sharpened over the last couple of months; the nations of Britain and their constitutional relations; and the crisis of the European Union. These two areas are linked to one another and also linked to the outcome of the May 5th elections and the character of fight-back against the cuts.

The British government is divided and in some disarray. This makes them more dangerous not less. Bill Greenshields gave this presentation at his first meeting of the Political Committee as chair of the Communist Party.
